There are two versions of the cover. One is the full painting (right). The other is a detail (below). I like both versions. The painting is of such great quality that both work quite well. I hope that we see other album covers by this artist.

A theater marquee is certainly not a unique image for an album cover. I can think of a half dozen notable past examples. However, this is probably the best execution of the concept that I have seen. The man standing on a ladder makes it just a bit more interesting than the others.

Editor's Note: I have been asked why sometimes I choose to feature the deluxe edition cover rather than the standard one. Typically, I use the cover that the record label has chosen to use as the primary cover for their publicity efforts. Sometimes they use the deluxe cover.

The winning cover features a black and white detail of a photograph (above right) by Portland, Oregon photographer Jason Quigley. Quigley wrote about the cover on his blog.
The Decemberists released a live album this week, and I'm thrilled to have several of my photos featured on the front and back of the record, as well as all over the insides. I had the privilege to shoot their 2 night stand at Edgefield last August, at the end of their massive world tour and the beginning of the dreaded "indefinite hiatus". The following shots are the ones you'll find in the album art (in living color!), but if I have time I hope to share some outtakes sometime soon. Huge thanks to Jeri Heiden at Smog Design for the beautiful layout and design.
Quigley's website is worth a look for those with an interest in rock photography. He has samples featuring Beth Ditto, YACHT, John Wesley Harding and several other cool artists. Let's hope to see Quigley's work used for future album covers.

Lyle Lovett's Release Me and Roses by The Cranberries tied for third with 13% each.
Art direction and illustrations for this package is credited to British cartoonist and illustrator Gerald Scarfe. Scarfe collaborated with Roger Waters on the sleeve design. The cover features a collage of cartoons created by Scarfe for the 1979 project. I received a couple of complaints about including this album cover in the poll from readers who felt that it was "recycled" or previously released artwork. However, it is a new package. That it won this week's vote does not surprise me.

I don't know what kind of animal is featured in the photograph. It looks like some kind of bear, but the legs are a bit small in relation to the paws. It could be digitally manipulated. It looks like it is a photograph of a mounted specimen rather than a living animal.

Because the cover for Making Mirrors has a very interesting story, I am very happy that it came in first. According to a review, the cover art was created in Photoshop by Gotye, using a painting by his father that he found stored in his parents' barn. "Making Mirrors" is the title of the original work.

There was a tie for third between Future This by The Big Pink and A Different Kind of Fix by Bombay Bicycle Club, which both received 17%.
The winning cover was created by graphic designer Marc Bessant. Bessant has designed many noteworthy album covers and is probably best known for his work for Peter Gabriel. His description of the Further Explorations cover below is from his blog.
I started by looking at some of Paul Motians earlier work, especially the ECM sleeves (which are always so damn good) as i really wanted to get an aesthetic of atmosphere just like those. The triangle is obvious i suppose, a shape of three equal sides forming a whole made perfect sense considering the line-up. Then I waited for a cold, foggy day and smudged the shape with my thumb on the studio window, giving the viewer a glimpse of what lay beyond, perhaps encouraging them to 'explore further' (you see what i did then!).
Very happy with this one.

The album was actually released in Japan back in March. It was made available as a digital download earlier this month. The CD and LP versions were released in the U.S. by Sargent House on December 20.
I was not able to find credits for the art director and the artist who created the cover. If anyone knows the details, feel free to post a comment.

The winning cover is a cropped version of the movie poster by Walt Disney Studios. The poster shows the actors' feet, which makes it clear that they are standing and holding back the crowd of Muppets. The album cover looks more like they are laying on a pile of Muppets. I think the cropped version is actually more appealing.

The winning cover features a photograph of Ward and Deschanel by Autumn de Wilde and a retro design by Kate Harmer. This is a good example of why using a talented photographer and a simple design often results in a striking album cover. There isn't anything that beats us over the head with a Christmas theme. It isn't too cute, which would be a temptation with anything related to Deschanel.

Those of you who have been following the most recent AlbumArtExchange Blog poll certainly noticed that the poll had been dominated by a large number of Scotty McCreary fans. Although McCreary's cover received a record number of votes, the poll is not a popularity contest. I had to average the number of responses from previous polls and subtract the difference from the final tally. That resulted in the cover for McCreary's album being in last place.
With the necessary adjustments made, the best album cover for the week of October 4, 2011 is Less You Know the Better by DJ Shadow. The cover received 24% of the legitimate votes. According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, Panic of Girls by Blondie is the best album cover for the week of September 13, 2011. The cover received 35% of the votes cast by our readers. A Dramatic Turn of Events by Dream Theater was a close second with 30%. In third place is Green Naugahyde by Primus, which received 22%.
The winning cover is a surrealist painting by Dutch artist Chris Berens. Berens has had several major exhibitions in both the U.S. and the Netherlands. In 2009, his painting "The Big Blue" was used for the cover of an album by German singer Xavier Naidoo.
This week's poll was an unusually close race. The Dream Theater cover was ahead for several days. Come back this evening to see if the album covers from this week's new music releases will be as close or if there will be an obvious winner in the bunch.

The U.S. release of the Grace Jones album Hurricane was voted the best album cover for the week of September 6, 2011. The album received 68% of the vote. That is such a landslide, it makes the second and third place album covers really not worth mentioning.
The winning cover features a photograph by Jean-Paul Goude, who is responsible for many
of Jones' most memorable photos and fashion statements over the years.
The photograph is from a cover shoot for V magazine's spring preview 2009 edition. It features Jones wearing a sequined derby and smoking a cigarette.
Come back this evening to vote for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. There are some interesting covers this week from artists such as Blondie, Primus, and Dream Theater.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of August 30, 2011 is Black and White America by Lenny Kravitz. The cover received 48% of the vote. Girls, Guns and Glory by Sweet Nothings was second with 26%. Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV was a distant third with 13%.
Art direction for the winning cover is credited to Mathieu Bitton. The photograph was taken by Kravitz' late father, American filmmaker and NBC TV news producer Sy Kravitz. It is a photograph of Kravitz as a child. While the peace sign and the words "peace" and "love" may appear to have been added using Photoshop, Kravitz explained that is not the case in an interview with Rolling Stone:
The picture was taken by my dad when I was in the second grade, I
believe, in the schoolyard of P.S. 6 on 82nd Street and Madison
Avenue. There was a sort of school bazaar going on,
and my mom had a little booth where she was painting kids' faces. I
found that photo about six months ago, and it was reaffirming to me.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album best album for the week of August 23, 2011 is Muppets: The Green Album. The compilation featuring various artists such as Weezer, OK Go, and My Morning Jacket performing songs made popular by the Muppets received 46% of the vote. I'm With You by Red Hot Chili Peppers was second with 31%. One Spark by Gabe Dixon was a distant third with 12%.
The album is currently ranked #1 in sales in the Children's Music and #24 in Pop by Amazon.com. The album cover features "typographic portrait" of Kermit the Frog. This type of design using typography to create a face became a popular online trend a couple of years ago. As shown by the typographic portrait of Jimi Hendricks (right), the technique works well for portraits of musicians. It was only a matter of time until it was used for an album cover. Having it used for Kermit is a surprise.
The images that result from this technique have a 1960s psychedelic feel to them. However, it is certainly easier to create these images on a computer rather than doing them by hand the way that artists did during the psychedelic era.
I do not have a credit for the art director and graphic designer for this album cover. The album was released by Walt Disney Records, so that is understandable. Disney rarely credits individual graphic designers.
Below are six album covers that were preselected from this week's new music releases (several of this week's albums will not be released until August 29). The design and art direction for the winning album cover is credited to Julian Peploe. Peploe began his design career with Sony Music and is a former vice president of design for Epic Records. Since 2001, he has operated his own design business, creating album covers for artists such as Lady GaGa, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, The Killers, and Mariah Carey. He has been nominated for a Grammy.

The Jay-Z and Kanye West collaboration album Watch the Throne was a distant third with 11%, in spite of being heavily hyped as being designed by Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci.
According to the album credits, the art director and designer for the winning cover is Danny Jones. Ben Kim is also credited for design. I was not able to find additional details.
Come back this evening to cast your vote for your favorite album cover from this week's new music releases. This week's selections include albums by Jeff Bridges, Breaking Benjamin, Chimaira and three other artists.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of August 2, 2011 is Fountains of Wayne's Sky Full of Holes. The cover won by a landslide, with 77% of the vote. King by O.A.R. was in second place with 12% of the vote. John Hiatt's Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns was third with 8%.
The image used for the winning cover is a diorama created by photographer Lori Nix. It is part of a series called "The City" that can be viewed on Nix's website along with her biography and descriptions of her work.
In my newest body of work "The City" I have imagined a city of our
future, where something either natural or as the result of mankind, has
emptied the city of it's human inhabitants. Art museums, Broadway
theaters, laundromats and bars no longer function. The walls are
deteriorating, the ceilings are falling in, the structures barely stand,
yet Mother Nature is slowly taking them over. These spaces are filled
with flora, fauna and insects, reclaiming what was theirs before man's
encroachment. I am afraid of what the future holds if we do not change
our ways regarding the climate, but at the same time I am fascinated by
what a changing world can bring.
While this certainly is not the first time that a diorama has been used as album cover art, this is perhaps one of the best examples. The most well-known album cover diorama is probably Jane's Addiction's Ritual De Lo Habitual, which was banned due to controversial content.
As usual, the poll for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases will be posted this evening. I will include albums by Jay-Z and Kanye West, Glee, and several others that may surprise you.

According to our AlbumArtExchange blog poll, the best album cover for the week of June 21, 2011 is for the self-titled album by indie folk band Bon Iver. The cover received 70% of the vote, which I believe is a record win for our poll. Weird Al Yankovic's Alpocalypse was second with 17%. There was a three-way tie for third.
The winning cover was created by Minnesota artist Gregory Euclide, who specializes in these unique relief paintings. Euclide's website is definitely worth seeing. He also has a Flickr account where you can see photos of how the Bon Iver was created. It is clear why this album cover won by such a landslide.

Total from Joy Division to New Order was voted the best album cover for the week of June 14, 2011. The cover received 36% of the votes cast by AlbumArtExchange Blog readers. A Treasure by Neil Young came in second with 24%. Standing on the Rooftop by Madeleine Peyroux was third with 20%.
The winning cover was designed by Peter Saville in collaboration with Howard Wakefield of Parris Wakefield Studios. The project is described in detail on the Parris Wakefield website, along with images of the entire package.
Endeavouring to capture the essence of Joy Division and New Order,
both Peter Saville and Howard Wakefield agreed that typography could be
the link. They agreed that the Helvetica Heavy Italic from Technique,
conveyed the 'look' of New Order, however Joy Division was
predominantly uppercase. By merging the two, a TOTAL was created.
The design is a 'nod' to Run2's commercial packaging; while the
out-of-register CMYK references the perils of clients printing without
proofs, which now-a-days happens all too frequently...
Check back this evening to see which album covers from this week's new music releases made the cut. There is quite a bit of elaborate illustration in this week's mix of covers.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, Group Therapy by Above & Beyond is the best album cover for the week of June 7, 2011. The winning cover received 33% of the vote. This week, we had a three-way tie for second place between Depeche Mode's Remixes 2 81-11, Iron Maiden's From Fear to Eternity and Peter Murphy's Ninth. Each received 17% of the votes cast by our readers.
The winning cover was designed by the UK design and art direction agency Big Active. Big Active has designed album covers for Muse, Basement Jaxx, Snow Patrol, Goldfrapp, Beck, and many other major recording artists. This particular design concept is simple, yet surprisingly effective.
The album cover and those for the singles (right) feature colorful ribbons photographed on a black background. It is interesting to see the contrast between the album cover, which appears to symbolize unity, and the cover for the single Thing Called Love. Who would have thought that ribbon arranged like this could convey a powerful message? I really like the concept for this project. It was a clear winner.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of May 31, 2011 is Ukulele Songs by Eddie Vedder. The cover won with 48% of the vote. Codes and Keys by Death Cab for Cutie was a distant second with 24%. A Scarcity of Miracles by Jakszyk, Fripp & Collins was third with 12%.
The winning cover features a photograph of the underwater sculpture The Lost Correspondent by Jason deCaires Taylor. Until I researched the Vedder album cover, I was unfamiliar with Taylor's work. Check out his official website for more amazing examples of his work. My favorite is the man watching TV (above right). It must have been difficult to select just one of Taylor's sculptures for an album cover.

Unfortunately, I was not able to find a credit for art direction and design for the winning cover. I believe that it may have been done by Matt Taylor's Varnish Studio. However, I do not have any specific details (and I'm too lazy this morning to find out).
This is Lady GaGa week. If her "little monsters" turn out in force, the winner of this week's poll could be the cover for Born This Way. It is going up against a couple of gorgeous covers that I hope won't be ignored in favor of Lady GaGa's crazy Photoshop experiment.

Come back later this evening to vote on your favorite album cover from among this week's new music releases. Next week is the release of Lady GaGa's monster. While we don't have a controversial album cover for a highly-anticipated album this week, there are quite a few nice covers in the mix.

According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of April 26, 2011 is Take Care, Take Care, Take Care by Explosions in the Sky. The winning cover received 35% of the vote. I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive by Steve Earle was second with 23%. There was a tie for third between The Airborne Toxic Event's All at Once and Bootsy Collins' Tha Funk Capital of the World, which both received 15% of the votes cast.
The winning cover was created by Austin, Texas artist Esteban Rey. According to a 2009 blog article, Rey is a friend of the band and has acted as their tour manager. It is a very interesting album cover. I would not have imagined that an illustration of a door could be so compelling. However, the cover received positive feedback moments after I added it to the AAX gallery.

Third place was a three-way tie between Bob Schneider's Perfect Day, Brian Setzer's Setzer Goes Instru-MENTAL! and Glee The Music Presents The Warblers.
This week's winner came as no surprise. It was created by the legendary album cover designer Storm Thorgerson. The fact that the voting took place during Easter week could have had an influence on the results. However, I think the landslide win was due more to the talents and reputation of Thorgerson.
Come back this evening to see which album covers were preselected for this week's poll. We don't have any designed by a legend this time. However, there are some interesting covers in the mix.

According to our weekly Album Art Exchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of March 29, 2011 is The King of Limbs by Radiohead. The cover received 48% of the vote. Rockpango by Los Lonely Boys was second with 30%. There was a tie for third place between Britney Spears' Femme Fatale and Wiz Khalifa's Rolling Papers, which both received 9%.
The artwork for the winning cover is credited to Zachariah Wildwood and Donald Twain, which are assumed to be psuedonyms for Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and artist Stanley Donwood (aka Dan Rickwood). Donwood has collaborated with Yorke on Radiohead's album art and packaging design for many years. In 2002, they won the Grammy for Best Recording Package for the album Amnesiac.
The King of Limbs album is being released in conjunction with a 36-page newspaper called The Universal Sigh (right). Apparently, there was a recent publicity stunt involving members of the band dressed as old-timey newsboys and handing out free copies of the publication.
There is a line that can be crossed between where artwork compliments and helps promote an album and where is becomes a distraction. I think Donwood and Yorke have crossed that line, perhaps with an eye on another Grammy for recording package design.
As usual, I will post this week's album covers later this evening. Come back and vote on the cover you think is the best from among the current selection of new music releases.

I was not able to locate credits for the art dierctor and photographer for this project. However, I do know that the stunning mountain top photograph and album title are not arbitrary. The group was given approval and permission from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization to reinterpret the songs from the iconic musical The Sound of Music. Lay ee odl, lay ee odl, lay ee odl-oo!

According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of March 1, 2011 is Different Gear Still Speeding by English rock band Beady Eye. The cover received 43% of the votes. 100 Lovers by Devotchka was second with 26%. Wounded Rhymes by Lykke Li was a distant third with 13%.
The winning cover is an unusual design to say the least. The primary element is a vintage photograph of a little girl (right) that has been floating around the Internet for several years. I do not know the origin of the image.
Unfortunately, I was not able to find a credit for the art director of this project. I would be nice to know why "Doreen taking an alligator ride" was chosen for the album cover.
I hope to have the polls working on the blog by early tomorrow afternoon. Check back then to vote for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases.
Below are six album covers that were preselected from this week's new music releases. They were chosen based on Amazon.com sales rank and for their noteworthy album cover designs. Please vote for the cover that you think is the best of the bunch. The winner will be announced next Tuesday.
According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of February 22, 2011 is Computers and Blues by The Streets. The cover was a clear favorite with 57% of the vote. Adele's 21 was second with 23%. Angels of Darkless, Demons of Light I by Earth and Glorious Collision by Evergrey tied for third place with 10% each.
A recent article on the Habitables Architecture blog has the scoop on the distinctive building featured on the winning cover:
'The Streets' are releasing their fifth and final album, entitled 'Computers and Blues', and if you inspect the cover art carefully, out of one of the windows you'll see front man Mike Skinner. The 1960′s student accommodation buildings, distinctive for their ziggurat style appearance were the work of English architect Sir Denys Lasdun, also responsible for the Royal National Theatre on London's South Bank.
Brutalist in its appearance, and compared by some to the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, to Mies Van Der Rohe by others, there is no denying that this building carries with it a certain air of weight and presence. It's imposing, yet through its use as a building for student accommodation no doubts exudes a certain homely charm, at least to those that call it so.
Come back this evening to vote for your favorite album cover from among this week's new music releases. Artists include Lucinda Williams, Marsha Ambrosius, Beady Eye and a couple of surprises.

According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of February 15, 2011 is The People's Key by Bright Eyes. The cover won with 33% of the vote. Dynamite Steps by The Twilight Singers was a close second with 30% and Marianne Faithfull's Horses and High Heels was third with 19%.
The winning cover was designed by Zack Nipper. Nipper won the Grammy in 2008 for Best Recording Package for Bright Eyes' previous album Cassadaga. It looks as if The People's Key may be another Grammy contender. The LP package (right) includes a die-cut tri-fold outer sleeve that makes the artwork even more interesting. The artwork should be viewed in high resolution in order to see the various textures used in the design.
Nipper has designed several album covers for current and past artists on the Saddle Creek Records label, including several for Bright Eyes.
As always, six new covers from this week's new music releases will be posted for your consideration this evening. This week, there are several UK imports in the mix.

According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of February 8, 2011 is Zonoscope by Australian indie electonic band Cut Copy. The cover won with 46% of the vote. Tao of the Dead by ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead was second with 33%. S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT by Akron/Family was a distant third with 13%.
I have already written about the winning cover a couple of times. The illustration was created by the late Japanese artist Tsunehisa Kimura. It features an image of New York City being destroyed by a massive tidal wave. The cover is nearly identical to that of the 1980 album Flying the Flag by Climax Blues Band, which was also created by Kimura.
As usual, check back later this evening to vote on the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. There's a Justin Bieber cover in the mix, which should make it interesting.

According to our weekly AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of February 1, 2011 is Party Store by Detroit garage rock band the Dirtbombs. The cover received 30% of the vote. Let's Eat by The Wiggles was second with 21%. Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars and Until We Have Faces by Red tied for third with 12% each.
The photograph used on the winning cover is credited to Rob Sansone. The cover reminds me of Paul's Boutique, the 1989 album by the Beastie Boys. The camera angle and cloudy sky seem to create a dramatic statement about urban decay.
Come back later this evening to vote for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. This week will include covers by Cut Copy, Teddy Thompson, and a few surprises.

The art direction for the winning cover is credited to the graphic design and illustration studio The Heads of State. Their website is worth a look.

The art direction for the winning cover is credited to Tom Hingston. Tom Hingston Studio has designed covers for The Chemical Brothers, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Grace Jones, Robbie Williams and many other popular recording artists.
Being an identical twin myself, I am probably a little more interested in the concept behind this cover than most people. So, I will just leave the mystery alone and let the cover speak for itself.
Don't forget to check back later this evening to vote for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. There will be album covers from Iron & Wine, Cold War Kids, the Grammy Awards and a couple of surprises.

City of Refuge by Abigail Washburn was second with 28%. Cake's Showroom of Compassion and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Skynyrd Nation tied for third with 11% each.
This album cover coming in first is a surprise. It features a rather simple cartoon drawing of a dachshund. The package design is credited to Amy Beth McNeely. I was not able to find out any additional information.

The AlbumArtExchange Blog has been asking readers to vote on the Best Album Covers for the Week all year. Back in July, we passed the halfway mark of 2010 and did a recap of the 26 album covers that had already been selected as the best of the year.
Now that 2010 is over, it is time to post the 26 additional album covers that were voted the best of the bunch. The Top Ten Best Covers of 2010 have been selected from the 52 covers voted best of the week during the year. Those covers will be posted here tomorrow.
The covers below are presented in no particular order. As always, you can click the image to see a larger view and for album details.
According to our last AlbumArtExchange Blog poll of 2010, the best album cover for the week of December 28, 2010 is What If... by Mr. Big. The cover won with 36% of the vote. Split Your Lip by Hardcore Superstar was a close second with 32%. Overcome by Alexandra Burke was a distant third with 12%.
A couple of people contacted me to point out that the U.S. release for What If... is scheduled for February 8, 2011. The reason it was selected for last week's poll is because the import ranked high in sales on Amazon.com.
I was not able to find credits for this album cover online. I suspect that the flying pig is a clever symbol releated to the fact that What If... is the band's first album in 10 years and incudes their original line-up, which hasn't recorded together sionce 1996.
Due to the recent holiday, there are not any new music releases to feature in a poll this week. However, I will be posting a list of the best album covers for the second part of 2010 later this evening. Come back and see which albums were voted the best from July through December. I will also be posting the Best Album Covers for 2010 tomorrow.

According to our weekly poll, the best album cover for the week of Deecember 21, 2010 is Couleurs sur Paris by French electronic music collective Nouvelle Vague. The cover won by a landslide with 46% of the vote. Death of a Pop Star by David Banner & 9th Wonder was second with 27%. Keri Hilson's No Boys Allowed was a distant third with 15%.
Unfortunately, I do not know French and I was unable to find English language credits for the album. So, I am not able to name the art director and illustrator for this cover. It is a very unique image and I am not surprised that it was so popular.
Later this evening, I will post the final poll of the year. When the results are in, we will have a list of the best 52 album cover for 2010 and the Top Ten Best Album Covers.

It is no surprise that the posthumous Michael Jackson album, Michael, was voted best album cover for the week of December 14, 2010 in our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll. The album received 33% of the vote. Farmer's Daughter by Crystal Bowersox was second with 21%. Basic Instinct by Ciara was a close third with 17%.
The album cover and painting by artist Kadir Nelson, which was reported to have been commissioned by Jackson shortly before his death, has generated quite a bit of media attention. It has been reported that both Oprah and Prince objected to being represented on the cover.
The cover works because it is so complex, containing hundreds of images that can be viewed as either cryptic symbolism or simply a tribute to Jackson's career in music. In either case, it is a professionally executed and effective album cover.
As usual, check back this evening to vote on the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. The year is winding down and we only have two polls left in 2010.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of December 7, 2010 is Endlessly by Duffy. The cover won with 37% of the votes cast. Wonder of the Younger by Plain White T's came in second with 19%. There was a tie for third place between Flyleaf's Remember to Live and Hinder's All American Nightmare, which both received 11%.
I am not surprised that the Duffy album won by such a wide margin. The photograph was taken by New York fashion and portrait photographer Lachlan Baily. In reviewing Baily's online portfolio, it is obvious that he excels in photographing young, fresh-faced models. Having him photograph Duffy for this project was a perfect pairing. I hope that we see more of Baily's work on album covers in the future.
Check back later this evening to vote for the best album cover from among this week's new music releases. There will be five covers going up against the posthumous release by the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Do they stand a chance?

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of November 30, 2010 is for Progress by Take That. The cover received 33% of the vote. The Beginning by The Black Eyed Peas was a close second with 29%. The Burlesque soundtrack was a distant third with 17%.
The photograph for the winning cover was taken by London photographer Nadav Kander. Kander may be familiar to many album art collectors for his work that appears as the cover for Meds by Placebo (right). The Take That cover features a similar motion blur effect of a nude figure.
In 2009, Kander did a series of portraits for The New York Times Magazine that included Barack Obama, Joe Biden and other members of the Obama administration. The same issue featured a series of Washington DC cityscapes also photographed by Kander. Kander's online portfolio is definitely worth a look.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of November 23, 2010 is Body Talk by Robyn. The cover won with 38% of the vote. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West and the reissue of Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine tied for second with 25% each.
The winning cover was created by Australian artist Lucy McRae. McRae's blog features several photographs that show exactly how the paper sculpture that surrounds Robyn was constructed. It took over two days to create the seven-layered pixel simulation.
When I first saw the cover, I wasn't sure if it was real or created in Photoshop. However, it is clear from the photograph of Robyn posing in the hanging pieces of paper (right) that it is not a digital creation.
McCrae's blog is worth checking out. There are several articles and videos that showcase her work.
As usual, check back this evening to vote on the best album cover from this week's new music releases. This week we have covers by Black Eyed Peas, Take That and four other notable artists.
